Graduate Medical Education (GME) Residency Expansion Grant
In 2013 Wisconsin Act 20 authorized the Department of Health Services (DHS) to establish grants to expand new graduate medical education (GME) programs. This opportunity is provided to hospitals and sponsoring institutions considering establishing such programs. The goal of the GME program is to increase access to quality health care by increasing the number of physicians practicing in rural and underserved areas of Wisconsin. The funding provided to recipients will assist rural hospitals and groups of rural hospitals in expanding accredited GME programs in a range of medical specialties needed in rural communities. The effective date of agreements awarded under this funding opportunity will be July 1, 2025.
